Context Setting

Unprecedented budget constraints, an aging workforce and pressure to improve service delivery are among the many realities public sector organizations are facing today. The current state is unsustainable meaning public sector is in a position where transformation is inevitable. For the next generation CIO, leading this transformation requires a skill set that enables you to thrive in a rapidly changing environment, to deliver new and innovative solutions to complex problems and to lead a dynamic workforce.

Objective:

Throughout the day, participants will hear from and engage with thought leaders and public and private sector CIOs who have lead or are dealing with transformation today. Participants will learn about the skill sets required to lead transformation in the public sector and will walk away with ideas and approaches that can be applied in their current and future leadership roles.

Approach

Through presentations and conversations with current CIOs, the participants will be exposed to the challenges of maintaining service delivery and at the same time transforming the organization for the future. The discussions will be framed in the context of needing to be agile while at the same time respecting the need to comply with the varied realities of the delivery environment.

First keynote opening presentation by a research firm regarding the future service delivery models, organizational roles and responsibilities, future ways of working and multi dimensional role of the CIO.

Second Keynote from a CIO who has successfully implemented a transformation and will highlight challenges and successes and critical success factors

10:45 am – 11:15 am Facilitated Roundtable Discussions

The transformation and transition facing our organizations poses complex challenges for us as leaders as we deal with the delicate balance of maintaining current service delivery and gaining the efficiencies that technology affords us for the future. CIOs face this dilemma on a daily basis. The roundtable discussions are designed to engage the audience in a vibrant discussion with many opportunities for collaboration and input. Each table will be a self-facilitated working group.

The panel will be composed of Federal, Provincial, Municipal and Industry CIO’s. The goal will be to have a mix of new and experienced CIO’s who can share experiences of how they have handled change and how they see the future evolving

The session will begin with an Open-forum questions and answer period with CIOs – participant’s opportunity to ask them anything!

2:45 pm– 3:15 pm Afternoon Facilitated Roundtable Discussions, with CIOs joining the tables to share their experiences.

Using the ideas generated from your table discussion of this morning and what you have heard from the CIO panel, continue your discussion. Involve the CIO who has joined your table by sharing your ideas and posing questions.
